Mail Order and Made to Last

One could argue that the original Sears homes were the equivalent of much of the new construction that was built in the recent boom. But it is hard to imagine any of the latest crop of construction looking nearly as good in 96 years as this Sears house looks now. Built in 1913, the 1,350 square foot abode has 3 bedrooms, a lovely front porch, and plenty of original woodwork. The kitchen and bathrooms have been "updated," as they say. The small, 0.08 of an acre lot is located in Ossining, a short walk to Main Street and the train station. At $6,994, the annual tax bill is relatively reasonable. What do you think of the price? $392,000

At first I thought this was a great price. But it is only 1,300 sq. ft, so almost 400K is not that cheap. But the place is sweet and it is easy to see that it could be really nice.

It does look like a sweet house, I'm not sure about that price in Ossining.

I disagree. This is a nicer part of Ossining and the price seems pretty good to me. Further west it would be too much, but not in this part.

This house was open this past weekend and we stopped by. The rooms were on the smaller side, but it was very nice, had been well restored and had some fabulous windows. One thing that we noticed, however, was that there was a bunch of trash strewed around the front and side yard . . .

I saw this home yesterday, it is adorable! Plenty of room for two adults and a small child. I especially love the front porch with it's welcoming swing. The front yard was neat and tidy. I'd like to see it again.
