Charming Grandeur

This just-listed 1892 brick carriage house on the outskirts of Ossining is a beaut. The 5,500 square foot home has 5 bedrooms, 3 baths, and charm and details to spare. The two courtyards, french doors, and mansard roof give this home an appealing European panache, and the main rooms all look big and bright. Located on 1 acre on lovely Beach Road, the house is close to the Hudson River and has winter views. The Old Croton Aqueduct trail crosses the road, providing a pleasant way to walk to Main Street, and there is a 12 acre preserve at the end of the street with a trail down to the train tracks. While the $24,768 annual tax bill is rather steep, I just love this house. $1,200,000

Really nice house. I love the beam in the bedroom. But 24K in taxes for Ossining seems really high. I've heard not great things about the schools. Can anyone tell me more about them?

Ossining schools are a mixed bag. There are some great programs, but they have all the city problems of having a large poor population.
