Planning Ahead in Ossining

The North County News reports that Ossining held it's fist public forum to discuss the village's new Comprehensive Plan. Following in the footsteps of Yorktown, which recently finalized a town-wide comprehensive plan outlining the goals and parameters for future growth, Ossining is hoping to lay the groundwork for making the most of what the village offers. Top on the list of Ossining's goals are developing a vital downtown, maximizing the waterfront, and creating more affordable housing. A representative of Phillips Preis Shapiro Associates, which the town hired to create the plan, said that they envisioned the waterfront becoming "like Fulton Park in Brooklyn or the Meat Market in Manhattan,” according to the North County News. Ossining certainly has tremendous potential and lots to work with.

P.S. Following up on the comment made, here is the link to One Harbor Square, the development on the Ossining waterfront currently under construction by GDC Homes and Cappelli Enterprises. Prices for the units are "estimated" to run from the $400,000's to over $1,000,000.

I'm all for developing Downtown. It's really an untapped resource, and could make a huge difference to the community. Right now the Farmers Market is the only reason anyone would want to be there. I vote for a good coffee shop as a starting point.

The waterfront is going to be changed with the new development already happening. To sell those apartments they HAVE to work on making more people friendly areas down there - parks, and community spaces.

I love the comment about making it more like 'The Meat Market' in Manhattan. Thats such an obnoxious thing to say. I doubt whether Stella McCartney will be moving up the Hudson anytime soon, which is just fine by me.

Ossining does have tremendous potential. It's only a matter of time until it's realized (Hopefully whilst maintaining all of it's natural charm).

I have to say I'm really tempted by this development. I've lived in Queens for the past nine years and am looking to move to westchester once my SO and I get our financial ducks in a row. I'm curious to see what the actual prices are on the units onces the offering is final. I'm relatively unfamiliar with the area. What are the ossining schools like?
